Pizza Express Jazzclub (Soho)

I have a ticket bought. Now, I need help with a hotel decision. For buying the ticket I planed to stay at Paddington Station (PI).
My wish/plan is to have afternoon tea at the Dorchester Hotel (love the piano music) and than to move to the Jazzclub.

Paddington Station - Dorchester Hotel - Jazzclub (Soho) and back to Paddington Station seems to be a lot to drive by taxi or bus. Do you have good idea where to stay? Any good/clean Premier Inn , Hyatt Place or other not to expensive hotels you know?

Not far at all, they’re all within a couple of miles of each other, perfectly reasonable to do by bus, Transport for London’s Travel Planner will help you work out which buses. And coming back, bus or the Elizabeth line from Tottenham Court Rd station (probably Dean St entrance) to Paddington will take about 6 mins..

Blimey, you've found something in London that Claudia wasn't aware of! Peter Boizot, who founded Pizza Express, was a big jazz nut and jazz has been played at the Dean St venue since 1969.

Agreed, no need to move hotels, these places are all quite close and easily reached on public transport. Agree Elizabeth Line is the best way to get home from Pizza Express Jazz Club.

It's a great venue, enjoy the show!

Such positive feedback about the jazz club. Thank you very much. I'm looking forward to this evening like a little kid.
Then it will probably be the PI PAD Station. I do have a big problem with the windows (they can't be opened), but otherwise I liked it. I'm not sure yet.

I've never been there, but I always check the programme at Ronnie Scott's Bar. Unfortunately, there's nothing I like during the few days I'm in London.
Pizza Express Live is just my kind of jazz, so that's where I'm going this time.

Thanks, all, for the valuable information. I'll be in London sans spouse next month and consequently able to catch some live jazz. I of course knew about Ronnie Scott's, but the Pizza Express jazz club is a revelation.

Johnews52 ….

There’s plenty of places in London that I don’t know about. It’s why I keep returning to explore.

I do like jazz as my old man played a xylophone in a jazz quartet. Both opera and jazz records were played and appreciated in my house during my formative years.

Thus well aware of Robert Merrill, Ornette Coleman, Dave Brubeck, and Coltrane.

Alas these days the desire to be out late has waned. So my not knowing about this jazz spot shouldn’t be a surprise.

It's a good little venue. I've only been in once, very briefly, for a drink. I know people who are part of their membership programme and they love it. A solid community of regulars who I'm sure would make a visitor from overseas very welcome.

It is a little far out for the average visitor but there's two Overground train stations nearby (Dalston Kingsland and Dalston Junction) and several bus routes from central London. I'd guesstimate it would be about £20 in an Uber or local minicab back to central London if you were returning late after a show. Maybe a few quid more if you're staying in Paddington, which is a little further west.
