A terrific article ( with pictures ) that combines two of my favorite topics - railroads and art ! Give this a read (no paywall) https://www.nytimes.com/2024/06/28/travel/pissarro-london-impressionism-monet.html?unlocked_article_code=1.3U0.SRHj.yzYmHhARU9WQ&smid=url-share
A felicitous marriage of subjects and writer. Thank you for sharing, Steven.
What a wonderful piece! I had had NO idea about any of that, and it is charming and fascinating! Thanks so much for the link.
That was a good read. Thank you Steven for sharing it here.
Excellent article and a jolly good read. Thanks
One wee point - I'm surprised that the author didn't mention the Dulwich Picture Gallery, a most impressive if small, museum, where I first became acquainted with Pissarro, one of my favourite painters. When I went, several years ago, they had several of his works, including Sydenham Hill.
Thanks everyone ! Im glad you've enjoyed it
Thanks for sharing. I trust, since you share my loves of art and railways, that you are familiar with Monet's series of paintings of Gare Saint-Lazare. I am fortunate to have seen many of them, and am fortunate that Boston, where I used to work has several Pissarro paintings at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts.
I can't believe I missed this in NYT, thanks for pointing it out very enjoyable.
