Pimlico for lodging

I am still exploring where we want to stay in London. Trying to keep costs in line, I was looking at Pimlico, Bloomsbury and other less populars places. I have also looked at Islington, Camden. We are looking at 7 nights, travel by tube or bus, arriving at Heathrow, and taking the train out of London to Bath on day 8. We will return to London for two nights prior to returning to the States, and will most likely pick a hotel close to transportation back to Heathrow. We are traveling Mid January.

Any experiences with these other areas?

We generally stay in the Victoria Station area along Belgrave Rd. -- in the Pimlico area. It is nice, handy for the Tube and VS. Lately have used the Best Western VS in that area. Reasonable prices. Couple of nice pubs and several good restaurants in that area. Haven't stayed in the other areas so I cannot compare them. Mid-January is going to be chilly with short days and long nights.

The Falcon Hotel is a nice hotel, it’s a three minute walk to Paddington tube station/train station, and a 8 minute walk to Lancaster Gate tube station.

We stayed at The Belgrave in Pimlico. I thought The Belgrave was nice hotel (modern) and with a reasonable rate. I was very pleased and would stay there again without hesitation.

The area was conveniently located within walking distance to two tube stations with a few restaurants and shops scattered about within walking distance as well. The shops in the area are mostly local neighboring daily needs type of shops. The area is clean and quiet an feels safe.

Pimlico and Victoria stations are in walking distance, with Pimlico being the closest and most convenient. We usually walked to Pimlico and took the train to Victoria if we needed to switch lines. We liked hat Pimlico was a smaller station and not as overwhelming as crowded as Victoria.

In Pimlico I've stayed at the Cherry Court Hotel (Rick Steves recommended) next to Victoria Station. Nice enough if cheap is a priority.

Bloomsbury is my favourite place to stay, as it is within walking distance of pretty much everything. I don't know why Rick doesn't include it in his guidebooks. I have stayed in and can recommend the Celtic Hotel (adjacent to Russell Square Station) and the Morgan Hotel (adjacent to the British Museum). I've also stayed at the Ridgemount but found that to be full of school groups oftentimes).
