Pick One Palace in / around London

2 adults and 2 teens, will be in London last week of June this year. Buckingham Palace will still be closed.

Suggestions for ONE must see palace (that teens will also enjoy) in / around London, or within a one hour train ride (day trip).

I guess it depends on what your vision of a palace is.

Technically Tower of London is a palace. If you are going there anyway, I’d choose Windsor Castle. Even though it’s technically a castle you can visit the State Apartments which have a palace feel and the Queen lives there part of the time.

If neither of those suit, I’d go for the historic Hampton Court Palace which is easy to reach by train as is Windsor.

I’m not big on “must see” tags so don’t take my discussion as being that kind of recommendation. Go if any sound interesting to your group.

Editing to add: When I answered I didn’t realize your other thread was the “pick two” from Westminster Abbey, Cabinet War Rooms and Tower of London. TBH, I’d do those 3 and skip leaving town to see Windsor Castle or Hampton Court Palace. That would make me happy but you’ll have to decide if that works for your group.

Hampton Court would be my pick of the palaces - lots to see, plus lots of outside space for teens to let off steam (and a maze).

If they’d prefer a castle, then the Tower of London or perhaps Windsor Castle.

Easy choice: Hampton Court Palace. Where Henry VIII and Elizabeth I lived.
Windsor would be my 2nd choice.

If you are looking for a royal palace/castle then the only ones near London would be Kensington Palace or Windsor Castle. There are several very beautiful stately homes around London within a one hour train ride...my favorite is Hatfield House in St. Albans. Beautiful - the family still lives there.

Yet another vote for Hampton Court Palace. Teens might enjoy the maze.
