Petworth house worth a visit?

Hi all,

My husband and I will be traveling to southern England in a few weeks. We have read alot about Petworth House and are rather interested in seeing it. We are National Trust (Royal Oak actually) members, so we just have to present our cards for entry.

We love visiting beautiful large houses that have ornate furnishings, as well as formal gardens.

I would be interested in hearing other peoples' thoughts on the place.

Thank you very much!

It has a World Class Art Collection: including many Van Dykes which would make it worth the visit.

Thanks for letting me know, Kathleen.

I agree with you that if all we did was to see these paintings that is reason enough to visit.

Thanks again!

I remember very well the walk through the deer park as we approached the house but have no recollection of the house itself. Sadly. Oh, well ..

It's OK, but there are more interesting NT places around. It's not in my top 10 NT places in the country. Probably not in my top 25 come to think of it. Most of the art work needs a good clean, as many of the pieces are very dark and drab.

Parking there is difficult at the weekend. I can't remember if the car park is free or pay. Your membership will not cover parking charges. The roads around town get very congested too. Use a decent app to navigate your way there eg co pilot.

Hi Jennifer,

THanks very much for your opinion.

If you don't mind my asking, could you tell me what your 10 top National Trust places in the area are?

Thanks very much!!

What kind of deer? Heck, I don't know .... just smallish tan coloured creatures. Why do you ask?

I ask about the deer because we live out in the country side of central Texas.

We have a very large number of white-tailed deer here.....We normally have 'herds' of 15-20 wander through our yard three times a day. I was just curious if the deer around Petworth were the type we always see, or a very different type.

We are into animals.

Thanks Harley!

I just watched the 2 videos you sent earlier about the Petworth House. They give me so much VERY interesting information. The video about the house interior is really something!! I can't wait to go!! I really got a kick out of the 'Bald Explorer' video! What a great way he has of presenting the facts!! Thank you so very much!! I'm going to search for other episodes of the 'Bald Explorer' a little later.

I look forward to watching the videos about the deer.
