Penrith train station— how much time needed to get there

We are looking at train tickets leaving from Penrith Station and are wondering how much time to allow to get to Penrith from Keswick.
We will be staying in the area of Cross St.
Also is there just one bus stop in Keswick or what would be the closest bus stop to head to Penrith.
Thank you all

There are 8 or 9 bus stops in Keswick.

From Cross Street you want the stop at what everyone local calls 'County Corner'.

That is the end of Station Road by the war memorial. Penrith bound it is a large bus shelter beside the foot bridge over the river.

Inbound from Penrith the bus goes past the war memorial and through a set of traffic lights. The stop is straight after the lights.

From Cross Street walk down Eskin Street to the river then a few yards to your left.

The journey time from Keswick Bus Station to Penrith Railway Station is 41 minutes. County Corner is 1 minute after the timing at the Bus Station when Penrith bound. It would be very rare for you to be the only ones boarding (or alighting) at that stop.

Thank you! We will be near Cross St and Manor Park. Does that still use the County Corner bus stop?
Also might there be delays due to traffic on tge way to Penrith?
Just want to know for buying the train tickets.
Thanks!

Yes it's still County Corner. The next stop, opposite the Fire and Ambulance Station, is somewhat further to walk.

The only place where traffic delays could normally happen is just as you come into Penrith- at exit 40 of the M6. That roundabout can be busy due to multiple traffic lights on the roundabout, then the next short stretch of road up to the road intersection outside Cranston's Food Hall. But we are only talking 5 minutes or so delay. At School start and end time it can also be very busy on the road from Cranston's to the Railway Station- but you are here during the Summer School vacation so that won't happen to you.

If you book your train ticket as starting from Keswick Bus Station (station code KWK) that includes your bus fare, but importantly also means that if the bus is late arriving at Penrith then even an Advance train ticket is automatically valid on the next train.

Thank you so much! This is very helpful!
I tried to look for the KWK beginning of the journey and it didn’t appear on the LNER app.
Do I have to purchase the ticket on another app?

That is a surprise, about KWK. I assumed it was system wide.

I know it is on the Avanti West Coast app as that is where I checked last night for the right "station" name. There are two, one of which is an old, redundant code/name.

It isn't on the Northern App but is on Northern ticket machines!! It isn't on Trans Pennine Express either, so appears to only be on the Avanti app/website.

But the ticket is valid on all train operators.

You may find that Avanti is one of those Apps where you have to set your system time to UK time to avoid time shifting rogue results.
