We will be arriving midday and only have the afternoon to see the Shakespearean sites and take in a play before we leave early the next morning. What recommendations do you have for parking? Is it worth staying in town at a hotel with carpark?

Many smaller B&Bs have a few free parking spaces that you can reserve along with your room, so you need not necessarily choose a more expensive hotel. Rick's guidebook also gives directions to the Bridgeway Multi Storey Car Park (or see it on Google Maps), 10 pounds for 24 hours.

What you don't want to do is try to work out the very complicated street parking rules. If you can read and follow yellow line markings and understand the different signs and lines, there is a limited amount of street parking available on certain days.
Don't just park and hope it will be OK - fines are high.
