I have two of the three apps mentioned (one will not download). Unfortunately they are not that detailed in rural areas like the Cotswolds; they show parking miles and miles away.

Just turn up and work out when you arrive. I also keep the well in the car full of small change that I can just put into parking machines - although most now accept bank cards.

Some machine ask you to put in the car reg number - so make a note of it so you can pull it out of your pocket and tap it into the machine. (They do this because kind people who have spare time over have been passing on parking dockets to people entering car parks).

You will find free parking at big supermarkets on the edges of towns. These usually have petrol stations as well and the petrol is usually cheaper than else where. Also note that these supermarkets also usually have decent toilets.

I don’t know of an app that shows all the parking options around the country. I usually look on Google maps to find car parks in places I don’t know. Often there are user reviews that might give you info as to whether it’s likely to be busy or what it’s convenient for etc.
