Hi,
I always run into this issue when renting in the UK......Personal Insurance - what covers your medical and ambulance expenses if you get into an accident. It is provided in minimal amounts. I believe Hertz covers $2500 dollars for medical expenses. My insurance, neither auto nor home nor health in the US won't cover it.....the rental agencies are never able to help with this question either. So, what are all of you doing to ensure you are covered? I hope that I don't get into an accident with every trip but there has to be some place to get additional insurance!!? None of the medical insurance suppliments that I get for my trips overseas will cover car accidents either. Any suggestions will be much appreciated.
Thanks!
i see you have no replies, so BUMP!
Yeah, this is the very first time I didn't get a helpful response ever on this site!!
You've had a few replies on your Tripadvisor thread.
UK practice is a bit different from the USA. If you are taking the insurance inclusive rates then they will include third party liability which includes the base NHS costs if you are considered liable for the accident or gain personal compensation. These are assessed on a flat rate scale and are not normally seen by the driver. Of course you are liable for the cost of any subsequent non-emergency medical part of the costs anyway, but that would be under your general medical insurance.
