Oyster or Travel Card? In London Jul 16-19 & Jul 23-26 - Total Eight Days & Staying in Zone Three

A friend asked what is the cheaper option, buy an Oyster card or Travelcard for her eight days in London. She'll spend four days in London before going to Amsterdam and then back to London for another four days, thanks.

My personal choice would be the Oyster card. She doesn't need to get either of these if she is comfortable using a contactless credit card instead.

We were just in London for 3 days July 3-6. First we used our Capital One Mastercard (Canada) to tap in but although convenient, the fees and exchange rates didn't make sense to continue. If you have a no international fee credit card, it makes sense to use this and they are encouraging it. Before we topped up our 3 year old Oyster Card, left from the last trip, we tried to buy a single trip ticket (about $6.75 for one way). The Oyster Card works out to about $2.25. The Oyster card won out and we used it many times over 3 days, topping up twice. Each time you go through and tap in it gives you your balance and the cost of the journey. The numbers above are all in British pound.
