I inadvertently ordered Oyster cards twice so we received 4 cards fir the two of us. We do have a third person coming either us. Can I just hive him one card to use while we all travel together or the system register that the same person is trying to travel on the same tube/bus and negate to second traveler?

The Oyster cards are all separate and allocated to anyone, so your friend can use one of the spare cards.
You needn't have ordered Oyster cards or indeed for them when you got to the UK, but now you have them you can use them. You could even sell or give your 4th card to another passenger when you arrive.
