Oxford Station Closure 29 July to 6 August

More details are now available of this total line closure-
https://www.gwr.com/travel-information/travel-updates/planned-engineering/oxford

Briefly Cross Country will not run between Leamington Spa and Didcot.
Chiltern will not run between Oxford Parkway and Oxford.
Great Western will not run between Didcot, Oxford and Banbury, also between Oxford and Hanborough on the line to Moreton in Marsh for the Cotswolds and Worcester.
On the Moreton in Marsh line a revised timetable will be in force.

All timetables are yet to be announced.

Bus/coach replacement services will be in place over all affected route sections.

As this is planned work it is unlikely that train tickets will be accepted on local bus services, as happened during the earlier bridge closure south of Oxford, because enough rail replacement coaches will have been sourced. Nor is it likely that train tickets to Moreton in Marsh will be accepted via any alternative all rail route this time.

Passengers for Oxford should consider using the Oxford Tube coach service from London instead.

This will also all apply on 13 August, 10 September, 16 September and 15 October

Just a reminder of this work.

Summary information for the 3 operators is on these web pages, and detailed timings should now be in the various route planners including national rail and those of the three train companies-

As expected rail tickets will NOT be valid on local bus services during this closure, just on the chartered rail replacement buses.

Another operator and route affected by all this work is West Midlands Trains and their (Nuneaton - Bermuda Park - Bedworth - Coventry Arena) - Coventry - Kenilworth - Leamington Spa service.

Coventry - Kenilworth - Leamington Spa will be completely knocked on its head for the duration of the works. Buses replace trains between Coventry and Leamington Spa from Saturday 29 July to Friday 4 August

It actually transpires that there are two simultaneous sets of engineering work-at Oxford and at Leamington Spa.

So Cross Country trains to the south coast are cancelled between Birmingham New Street and Didcot Parkway.

From Birmingham to Coventry use West Midlands Trains/London North Western or Avanti.

A bus then runs from Coventry to Leamington Spa. Chiltern Trains then run from Leamington Spa to Banbury. There is then a second bus between Banbury and Didcot Parkway- so XC passengers for the South Coast should be travelling via London.

From 5 August Cross Country trains are back to running to Banbury. Buses from there to Didcot Parkway, Oxford, & Tackley for onward services.

Coming from the South, buses from Didcot to Oxford, Banbury, Hanborough for onward connections and Radley for local services.
