Oxford during Literary Festival?

Hi all - Have my first trip to London coming up at the end of the month, and I am debating also visiting Oxford. Entire trip will be during the Oxford Literary Festival so I am wondering if that will make things too crowded - does anyone have experience with this?
Also, I'm traveling with husband, 14 yo daughter, and 3 yo son. We have 5 days in London (4 if we do a day trip). I'm debating whether the day trip to Oxford is a good idea or we should just spend all our time in London - thoughts?
Thanks!!

It’s a personal decision really, based on how much you want to see Oxford. As you’re thinking about skipping it then you probably don’t have your heart set on it. There is loads to do in London for 5 days. With a 3 year old you won’t be going at a super fast pace so this will give you a bit more time. You could do an easier trip to Hampton Court or Kew Gardens which will give your little one a chance to run around.

Parts of Oxford are crowded pretty much all year round, so I wouldn't make the Literary festival much of a changer.

Throwing these into the mix. If you desire to get away from London proper consider:

Crystal Park dinosaurs
Mudchute Farm
Climbing the O2 and exploring the Design Center complex: https://www.dezeen.com/2021/09/15/design-district-greenwich-peninsula-opens/amp/
Hampton Court Palace
Walk along the Thames River path
Wander through Richmond Park, the visit the Alligators Mouth bookstore and enjoy a pub lunch in the adjacent Angel anf Crown pub
Visit Greenwich and see the Painted Hall at the Royal Naval Academy
Take a London Walk. www.walks.com
Visit Highgate Cemetary then have lunch at the Hollybush pub

Enjoy
