Oxford bus/coach directly to Heathrow

Hi everyone,
We are finally getting to travel to London, Oxford and the Cotswolds! I am trying to put together transportation plans and, when looking today at the site to take the direct bus/coach to Heathrow, I read that the main bus terminal 3 was now closed. We will be staying at a hotel close to terminal 3, and now I am not sure where we need to take the Heathrow Express from Oxford to? Any thoughts?

Also, we will be staying for five nights in London at the Sheraton Park Lane (using points-yay !), and I am wondering if anyone knows the best way to get from LHR to the hotel. Should we take the new Elizabeth line? After five nights in London, we will take the train to the main train station in Oxford and hire a car to do some exploring and walking in the Cotswolds.

I would appreciate any advice you can give me regarding travel from LHR to London, London to Oxford, and then direct coach back to LHR. I have been overwhelmed with the transportation portion of the planning!

Thank you so much !

Sue

From Heathrow to your hotel, the BEST way to the Sheraton would be either by taxi or private car hire. A less expensive way would be to take the Piccadilly line to Green Park and from there it's a short walk to your hotel.

From London to Oxford, you can take the train from Paddington Station. You can also get one from Marylebone station that is cheaper but takes longer.

You can find the schedules here:

http://www.nationalrail.co.uk

You can also take a bus from London to Oxford. These are operated by Oxford Tube. This will take twice as long as the train from Paddington

From Oxford to Heathrow you can take a coach called The Airline

If you are going to T3, the Central Bus Station is located close to T2 but is an easy, underground walk to T3. If arriving at T3, you would take the same walk part way to the Underground station (Piccadilly line).

Which hotel near T3?

There is a National Express Oxford bus that leaves every twenty minutes.

That bus is NOT operated by National Express. It is the Oxford Bus Company the Airline service. National Express will sell it as a third party service but you will be looking in vain for a NE bus on the run. However National Express do run their own service- the #210 to Wolverhampton every 90 minutes (which starts from Gatwick Airport),

Also National Express do NOT run from central London to Oxford, except for one overnight bus to Liverpool. That service is run entirely by the Oxford Tube (again National Express will sell it as a 3rd party, but all the buses are in Oxford Tube livery). That bus runs from a kerbside stop between Victoria Railway and Victoria Bus/Coach Stations.

Hi, Susan, Frank's directions are accurate and show you how to get from Heathrow to London; London to Oxford, and Oxford back to Heathrow. As he said about getting to London, the easiest (aka best) way is to get there by taxi or private car. But that's expensive. I don't like expensive when I can avoid it, so I generally use public transportation, and it's very easy as long as you don't have a lot of luggage. I generally just bring one carry-on and a personal bag, so your mileage may vary. :-)

Definitely take the Airline bus that Frank linked to, which will get you from Oxford directly to Heathrow. It's a very nice and comfortable ride, relatively inexpensive and there are regular trips leaving every hour. I took it this year in April and it was great. You get on the bus at the Gloucester Green bus station in Oxford (where the Wednesday market is). The day I went, it was not crowded at all, but I wouldn't take chances and would get there about 10 minutes early. There are other stops around town where you can pick up the bus, but it's easier and probably better to get it at the origin to ensure a seat.

My understanding is the ticket office at the Central Bus Station has closed, but the buses are still using the station. BTW, it is a great way to get to Oxford. I took the Airline Bus in 2022 and the bus was nice & clean and we literally zipped up to Oxford with no probably.

Laurie Beth, I just paid on the bus using Tap and Pay. In fact, that's what everyone did.
