Hi, We are traveling from Rome back to the United States this coming June - with an overnight layover in London. Does anyone know, with the current covid restrictions, if we are able to leave the airport to spend the night in a hotel in the city center? I know that, at this point, we will have to be tested in Rome before leaving but am unsure of the rules once we arrive at Heathrow. Trying to contact British Airways about this has been impossible, and I can't find any current information about any restrictions or rules about leaving the airport. Thanks for any help you can give me on this issue.
Yes, we are looking at booking flights to E. Africa in July and to save $$$ may use miles to get to Europe, then buy a second ticket to get to Africa. Still, am wondering if we have an overnight in London or Amsterdam, will be have to get another COVID19 test before flying to Africa? Although it seems that testing is available at Heathrow.
To the best of my knowledge there’s nothing to prevent you from staying in town. However, as it currently stands, unless the 2nd flight is still within the one day window, you’d need to take an antigen test before leaving London.
There are no airside airport hotels at Heathrow so you have to enter the UK and stay at a hotel - whether outside the airport or in London or anywhere else for that matter.
with effect from 11 Feb other than completing a passenger locator form, there are no restrictions, testing or quarantine when entering the UK.

Thanks so much for this information. Do you know how I get this passenger locator form? I suspect the airline would have it, but I’m not sure.
I am sure it is linked somewhere from that link.
Don’t forget that if the U.S. doesn’t change its rules, you will need to get your day-prior-to-departure test for the U.S. done in London.
Everything you need to know about the PLF is on that linked webpage.
Bookmark the page as the guidelines for June may change from February. If anything, there will be fewer restrictions.
Thank you. I have definitely book marked it!
