We arrive early in the morning and don’t fly out until the next morning. We were thinking of doing a tour, just not into London, as we’ll be staying there several days at the end of our trip. We’ll be staying near the airport.

Windsor is always the most sensible option - for most places you would need to go into London to connect with trains so waste time just travelling. It will also fill a day.
We just returned and did our overnight in Richmond. Nice town, we hung out by the river. And in the afternoon walked to Kew Gardens. Was really a great layover!
