Outside London, Heathrow departure

My family and I will be winding down our vacation to the UK by spending Wednesday and Thursday nights in London before flying out of Heathrow on Saturday night. We would like to find a quaint little charming town to stay in for our last night (Friday) away from the big city. Can anyone recommend such a little town outside London but not far from Heathrow? Thanks!

While not exactly quaint, you could stay in Windsor or Eton.

If the water is back under control by then, Marlow is beautiful. Henley on Thames may also attract.

On one trip we stayed in a little village near Reading, but I can't remember the name of the village! On our last trip we stayed in a hotel in Reading. We were next to the canal, and across from the pedestrian area with shops and restaurants close by. The canal boats come through that area, and it's within walking distance of the downtown area and the station.

There is a regular bus route from the train station to Heathrow. We dropped our car off at the rental place, and took a taxi to the station. You pay for the ticket at the station, we actually bought the tickets the night before our journey. it's a comfortable ride on the bus, with free wifi. The buses run every half hour or so and drop you off at your terminal. It takes about 45 minutes to an hour, depending on the traffic.
