TheOrdinaryRebecca, I was thinking the same thing. Lol!

Immediate train of thought: “Do not buy a ticket…do not buy a ticket….do not buy a ticket….”

Not even an Oasis fan - I am just too suggestible.

... and for anyone who had already booked a hotel on these days, hope they aren't going to cancel on you.

Just listening to an article on the radio pointing out that hotel prices on the nights in question are already pretty expensive.

Thanks for the warning.
The gouging begins.
I wouldn’t know Oasis or their songs if they turned up and played in my driveway!

Nick, I’m going to lay odds that the vast majority of Forum posters were born when Ike or Truman were President.

Love music but could care less about Oasis.

Have seen The Stones, Modern Jazz Quart, Creedence, Heart, The Doors, The Kinks, Steely Dan, Bonnie Raitt, Grateful Dead, to name a few.

Last concert Billy Joel with Elton John in LA.

Who needs Oasis?

Or on the tragic side killed by a member of the Hell’s Angels which occurred at free Altamont concert for the Stones

Both my sons would love this concert!

We stayed a week at Grand Canal Hotel near this venue.

I don’t think Oasis really broke America. This is huge in the UK and a lot of Europe. They were absolutely massive here in the 90s and apparently Gen Z are discovering them.

I’m going to try for tickets to relive my youth!

My son is trying, too. He said the server must be overloaded and not sending confirmation notices for the pre-sale. He had to answer Oasis trivia to sign up.

I bow to no-one when it comes to classic rock and identify passionately with that musical era, but even I would rate the best songs on 'Wonderwall' as absolutely world-class. Btw, our recent Cotswolds driver (Ian 'Cookie' Cook) still has close friends who are techs for big-league bands. As a result, Ian was given a backstage pass to a show on the Stones last tour. He apparently stood side-stage beside Courtney Love, Adam Clayton and Noel Gallagher.

I am done. The special people changed

Nick:
I guess my interest in current pop music started waning about 1986.
I worked in the Middle East before that and we had hundreds of parties with 70’s and 80’s music.
So, I don’t know Wonderwall!

Before that, I knew and loved many bands:pop rock, punk, etc.
My brother is/was a “punk” musician ….now they are called “power-pop” and his band is out of retirement (in their late 60’s) and doing their second European tour this Fall! :))

I’ve never knowingly heard a Taylor Swift song either……I’m old now!
Give me a good chamber or Baroque concert! ;))

Back to travel topics now, before we make anyone miffed…..

Oasis opting to play their Edinburgh dates during August is… interesting from a hotel prices point of view.

Hotel prices in Edinburgh during August are already massively inflated due to the Festivals and Tattoo. I saw a post on social media suggesting that a room at a Holiday Inn Express during the Oasis gigs was now going for more than £1,000 but that might have been a fake. But certainly it’s going to be an issue.

ETA: out of interest I did a quick check on IHG for the Oasis Friday night in Edinburgh. A few rooms left at the Indigo in Edinburgh for £500+ or the Holiday Inn Express in Stirling for £200. On booking.com the Britannia Hotel, with ratings of just 5.2, is offering a room for Friday 8th August for £599.

I’m 60 and I love Oasis. They do proper anthemic three-chord rock at its best, with some hugely memorable and uplifting tunes.

I played the What’s the Story album loud in my car over and over back in the day and it brings back great memories of a particular time in my life. I’d love to have seen them back then but I just don’t think I can cope with the crowds and the travel and the expense these days.

I was really hoping they’d headline Glasto so I could watch it on the BBC but I don’t think that’s going to happen.

This is all very interesting! I've never heard of them but my musical interests have always been geared towards folk/acoustic rock music, classical, bluegrass, and show tunes. The first albums I ever bought in high school were Crosby Stills Nash & Young and Pete Seeger.

But it sounds like it would be a lot of fun for someone who was a fan! Although maybe not so much fun trying to find a hotel room.

Thanks for the warning :-)

I'm with S J on this, so it is nice to know when to stay away.

PS. I'm probably too old. My musical interest died when The Beatles separated.
