number 63 confirmed booking but just got this email

you are receiving this email because you have booked accommodation at Number 63 for a date after 24 May 2016 and unfortunately I have to inform you that the Directors of Number 63 have reluctantly decided to increase the accommodation rates as from 1 March 2016 for all bookings made as from today.

As our Terms and Conditions state that: -
All room rates include VAT at the current rate. We reserve the right to alter prices for any reason up to the date of booking or up to 12 weeks prior to arrival, whichever is the later. After such dates, prices may only be altered to reflect a change in the rate of VAT or local service charge and taxes or for any other reason outside the control of the hotel in which case the changes will be notified to the guest. In the latter event, the guest may cancel their booking without cost.

This means that any accommodation which has already been booked prior to today and is for a date after 24 May 2016 will also be subject to this increase

Ive never heard of this before. I guess if you book a year or two in advance i could see prices changing. my stay is May 31-June3 checkout june 4.

Were the terms and conditions stated in the email the same when you booked? If so, it's looks like they're within their rights to increase the rates since it is 12 weeks before your stay and that is the later date (than your booking date). Did you read the terms and conditions before booking?

Is the increase enough to make it worth looking for another place? If not worth the hassle of changing your hotels then I guess you'll just have to accept it, as crappy as that may be.

The long page of terms and conditions. lol nope didnt read that. I agree its not worth moving for a few bucks since I've started to plan on being in that location. Just figures. I guess this is part of travel, the unexpected. I just hope Its the only increase as i'm splurging way too much on this trip already.

For years 63 Bayswater has been one of the best kept secrets in London for safe, quiet, convenient and well priced accommodations.. Consider yourself lucky to be staying there.

I'm sure it won't help the pain of paying more than than you thought, but it may be worth knowing that the small hotel is actually a charity, and the UK government has forced through a huge rise in the minimum legal wage. That takes effect next month.

Most businesses will either be cutting down staffing levels, raising prices, or there are predictions that more of the high street will be closing.

It is not an insignificant change.

A charity? That's news to me and I like that idea. thanks for the info. Good to hear positive feedback too.

Hi Debbie
We received the same email for our upcoming stay in the summer. I do remember when booking that they had said they could alter the price before the stay. It doesn't look to me to be very much more than we booked at though, maybe 5 pounds a night. Was yours more?

Hi Lisa fortunately it looks like a small increase unless the new rate doesn't include taxes and fees. I won't change my plans though.

One small consolation is that the British Pound has been falling recently and the Canadian Dollar has risen. Impossible to predict what will be going on by May, but that's a month away from the EU referendum and the pound could fall further.

IMO, this is the PERFECT location for visiting London. Several years ago, my wife and I chose the neighborhood for a 6-month London stay (a couple of blocks north on Devonshire Terrace, just opposite Cleveland Square).

You have direct access to Hyde Park and Lancaster Gate Tube station - quick connections to most London sightseeing and the Circle line.

We love to walk - just through the park to the museums. Only 2-mile park stroll to Buckingham Palace; only a half-mile further to Westminster.
