Notting Hill? Was the movie really shot there?

Any places to see that were in the film? Just wondering. We have a day planned to just wander around so I thought we might as well have something to look for.

What are your must see places, stores, restaurants etc in the area?

It will be November.....

We spent a couple of hours walking down Portobello Road Market and had alot of fun doing so. We saw the travel book shop that Hugh Grant owned and took pictures in front of it. It's now a souvenir shop but it still has the name Travel Book Shop in front of the store. You can always google London film locations to look for places which is how I found out about this.

The London Walk through the Notting Hill area points out a number of the film sites. The blue door was replaced.

If you like cookbooks, the Books for Cooks shop on Blenheim Crescent is worth a visit. I like to get takeaway from the Ottolenghi shop on Ledbury Road. I like Ottolenghi's food so much that I own all of his cookbooks. If you want a 2 Michelin star splurge (expensive and you must book way in advance), The Ledbury has fabulous food. I went there a few years ago when they had a much less expensive lunch menu and everything was outstanding. Unfortunately, the price has gone way up.

It's called on location filming.

It's what we location scouts do, provide the canvass for all the other departments to create their magic.

The days of My Fair Lady shot virtually entirely on a sound stage are long gone.

It's never cheap but the visual payoff is worth it.

So yes Notting Hill was really shot there.

We stopped by the bookstore in the movie since it was only a short walk from our hotel. Not certain of the real address of the flat in the movie or which small park was used.

If you enjoyed the movie, then it is worth the wander, just going to the market on Saturday makes it worth sidetracking a bit.

However, do not expect intact sites. As mentioned, the bookstore is not a bookstore, no Blue door, and the Park/Garden used is private, or a communal garden for residents, not a Public park, even the bench used in the movie was auctioned off. But the area has a nice ambiance to it and is worth a day or afternoon.
