Northern Rail have suddenly, and very quietly, introduced advance fares for many more journeys across their network.
I can find advance fares for journeys as short as 8 miles, which can be booked up to 2 or 3 days before travel. It's certainly worth checking for them. Some of the fares show an 80% reduction on full fares- I can see several examples where full fare is £10, but advance fares are £2 or less.
None of the fanfare which accompanied LNER's new fare policy on the east coast main line.
Last night I looked at a journey for which I was quoted £58. Tonight it was there for under £9.
Not that I would have paid the full fare- I would have found a work round with a little known rover ticket to reduce it to £17.50.
