Norfolk: Holkham Hall an villages

We’d like to spend a few days ~ take the train to Norwich then find a beach town and tour Holkham Hall. Has anyone done this? Thoughts? Thank you

Cley next the Sea, Sheringham, Cromer, Blakeney, Stiffkey (don’t mention the vicar and the lion), Burnham Overy Staithe, Wells next the Sea, Salthouse. Holt is a bit in land. Many choices. Will you have a car?

The train will take you from Norwich to Sheringham and Cromer. From there you have the hourly Coastliner and Coasthopper buses.
The Coastliner takes you as far as Wells next the sea and the Coasthopper on as far as Kings Lynn.
A day bus pass is £10, 3 days £21 and 7 days £36.
Holkham is on the Coasthopper route.

Kings Lynn is also the terminus of the fast electric trains from Kings Cross via Cambridge.

You are MARVELOUS!!! Thank you so very much!!! I think I should send you a seaside souvenir from Cramer or Wells by the Sea!!
Perfect information.

Do you know whether I can book bus tickets close to the day??

I have taken these buses, and we just paid when we got on- no need to book in advance. However, I'm not sure about getting a pass as we did pay-as-you go.

If you have time/inclination- you can look into doing a boat trip to Blakeney Point to see the seals. Altho last time we went there weren't that many- normally there are hundreds.

Enjoy Holkham Hall- in my opinion the nearby beach is the nicest one in the UK.

Yes, people generally just buy tickets on the bus.

You can pay in Cash or by any usual contactless method (Tap Credit Card, Google Pay etc)

However, if you prefer mobile tickets on an app you can buy them on the Lynx Buses website (Choose Coast Day, Coast 3 Day or Coast Week)- https://www.lynxbus.co.uk/tickets-fares/

Has anyone stayed at The Victoria Hotel in Holkham?

I was treated to a night at the Victoria Hotel in Holkham and it was lovely. Go for it.

We’ve stayed at The Victoria. A lovely property, delicious breakfast and you can walk to Holkham Hall from the front door in about 20 minutes. It’s a very dog friendly property and as long as you don’t mind sharing the dining room with a couple of labradors and a spaniel I say go for it as well!

This sounds perfect! Love the labbies.
I think we may start in Cromer (train from London) and see Blickling Hall as well, then bus over the coast for Holkham. I’m getting excited.

This forum is superb! Thanks again to all responders.

Making progress on our Norfolk trip! We’ve booked the Victoria at Holkham, now I’m
hoping to find somewhere to stay near the bus interchange in Cromer so we can see Blickling Hall. Any thoughts?

Hunstanton is also worth a look and has some low cliffs of alternating bands of chalk and red sandstone.
