We are about to arrive in Newcastle and have time to kill before our train to London.

I've never been in there but, as you are in between trains, the Royal Station Hotel is the obvious choice.
It is one of the grand old Station Hotels of the UK, and is right outside.
They seem to be full for Lunch today, but have good availability for Afternoon Tea- the first available slot being at 1215. We are on North of England prices here- £17.95 each

Great minds think alike!
We were all set to have a very early afternoon tea. We went for a short walk to pass the time before we could go and then got distracted.
The tea looked lovely on the website.
