New Year's Eve in London - Dinner and fireworks venue recommendations

Hi! I will be in London with my two sons (20 & 17) on New Year's Eve. We will be staying in the Paddington area. I am looking for a casual spot for dinner...we are traveling light and will not have fancy clothes with us! Ideally, it would be not too distant either by walking or via the Tube. We would love either a good ethnic restaurant (we are adventurous eaters) or a more traditional (not fancy "gastropub") pub. Also, looking for a nice place to watch the fireworks that would not be too crowded. Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

If you are looking for restaurants near Paddington, there are a lot of great Malaysian places on Queensway (Med Salleh is a good one). One thing to keep aware of on New Year's Eve is tho the tube does run all night, they do close some of the bigger stations (like Piccadilly Circus) early, or make them exit only. It doesn't look like that info is up yet on the TFL website, but you can check here: https://tfl.gov.uk/status-updates/major-works-and-events/christmas-and-new-year-travel#on-this-page-4

Also note you need a ticket in advance for the fireworks.

Visit London has a pretty comprehensive guide: https://www.visitlondon.com/things-to-do/whats-on/new-years-eve/things-to-do-on-new-years-eve-in-london

You can check Time Out closer to the date… my cursory search didn’t turn up detailed info yet.

If you want to see the show but not deal with the raucous crowds, try Lambeth Bridge or Vauxhall Bridge for viewing. Neither will be nearly as crowded as places closer to the Victoria Embankment and other ticketed spots closer in.

For a pub (not gastropub) meal in an utterly glorious Victorian pub that is beautifully preserved and completely stunning, try the Prince Alfred in Formosa Street. It’s a 13 minute walk from Paddington Station: https://www.theprincealfred.com/

You’ll need a reservation, I am sure. :-)

Pubs will be doing various things for NYE. Some will be ticket only and put on a party, some will be open as usual, some will be open but not doing food etc. You’ll need to check. It can be better to go out for a long lunch on NYE and forget about dinner.

Since you are staying in the Paddington area see if Tudkin Flavors of Malaysia is taking reservations. Place is small so reservations a must.

Can’t help with fireworks intel. Hopefully other posters can.
