New train strikes

ASLEF Union Train Drivers at three more train companies have voted to go on strike - we spoke about these dates for revealing the votes in previous posts.

Chiltern Railways - serves High Wycombe, Oxford, Banbury, Stratford upon Avon and the West Midlands from London Marylebone -;

Northern Trains - in the north and north central areas of England -;

and Transpennine Express - coast to coast in the north of England including York, Manchester and the border regions of both Scotland and England and sometimes backstop Avanti when they cancel trains...

No dates have been announced for these strikes. 14 days notice must be given before any strikes - these are the results of ballots authorizing Unions to call strikes, but at this moment none have been called.

Thank you for this update Nigel. We arrive in London 4 Sep and just received notice from Avanti that our rail travel may be disrupted. Do I assume correctly that car rentals will be a challenge to find during rail strikes?

Thank you Nigel. We have several train journeys coming up in September, a couple on 2 of those lines you listed. If we have our tickets purchased already, will the train lines let us know our trip is affected or will we have to keep watch? Is there a main website to check or should I just continue watching for your posts as I've been doing? Your help is greatly appreciated! Jenny

Thanks for this information, Nigel. We don’t start traveling by train in the U.K. until mid-September and I’m hoping these strikes can be resolved asap for everyone’s sake. I got an email a few days ago from Trainline, who I booked all my train tickets through for the sake of simplicity, that TransPennine Express has notified them that part of my journey on September 18 has been affected by the timetable and will no longer stop at Liverpool Lime Street, which is the second train of the trip. I’m assuming this has nothing to do with a strike. Now I have to figure out what to do.

Jenny find the official websites for the train companies serving the areas you want to travel in and keep an eye on them.

National Rail Enquiries also run a strike banner at the top of their page but I don't find it easy to follow.

Andrea, TPE have had a bad record recently in frequent cancellations as reported by others.

No strike dates have yet been announced.
