Grasmere Gingerbread now has a 2nd shop at Hawkshead-

This has the much needed benefit of space, which the original Grasmere shop never could have.
This allows them to offer a range of artisan coffee, and a wide range of local food and crafts. In summer they also sell Grasmere Gingerbread ice cream and in winter hot mulled and ginger wine.
It is a great new stop over on the way to and from Hill Top- and a good excuse to visit Hawkshead Church and Old Grammar School (where William Wordsworth was a pupil)- a part of the district many people on this forum miss out because of their focus on Keswick. Hawkshead is just a lovely village to explore-
With a car you can also explore Grizedale Forest with it's sculpture trail. The Forest Centre is based around the former Grizedale Hall- used as a Prisoner of War camp for both Italians and Germans in WW2.
Other hidden close by sites include Wray Castle, the Claife Viewing Station and the Colthouse Quaker Meeting House - dating from 1688.
A great and very easy day out is to go to Hawkshead direct from Keswick, then to Hill Top, then over on the car or foot ferry back to Windermere, then lake cruise to Ambleside or the Islands then back to Keswick.
From Grizedale I like going down through the country lanes to the quiet village of Satterthwaite and on to Rusland (where the author Arthur Ransome is buried) then to Stott Park Bobbin Mill, Finsthwaite and the bottom end of Windermere.
