We will be leaving Edinburgh by train and headed to The Cotswolds. We want to rent a car for The Cotswolds/Bath portion of our trip. Where is the best location to arrive by train close to The Cotswolds and rent a car?
I would suggest oxford. You can change at York and take train from York to oxford.
There are hourly direct trains from Edinburgh to Cheltenham - takes about 6 hours though.
It's The Cotswolds BTW.

You may find it cheaper & quicker to take the train from Edinburgh to Birmingham. (New Street is the downtown station where you could change for a train to Cheltenham or Oxford - and by splitting the fares at Birmingham - you are likely to save money on the advance purchase specific train tickets). You may like to consider renting the car at Birmingham International - otherwise, consider Cheltenham or Oxford. www.nationalrail.co.uk
(I would suggest you do an overnight in York if using the easterly route).
