Mom and I are planning to take a Cotswold tour from Bath (we won’t have a car). The 2 companies I am looking at are Lion Tours and Mad Max Tours. Both have very similar Cotswold tours. The main difference, other than about 10 pounds in price, is that the Mad Max tour does not go to Tetbury. Has anyone gone on either of these tours and if so, is one recommended over the other? Or has anyone had experience with these companies, if not these exact tours? (I know there is a Cotswold tour that has been highly recommended on this forum, but it’s a bit beyond our budget). Thanks in advance for any feedback!
I did the Mad Max full day Cotswolds tour in June 2018. I thought it was good value for the money but as all of those are, fairly rushed. I knew that going in but I was traveling with family who wanted a taste of the Cotswolds so it worked out great for us. The driver/ guide was excellent. They are out there every day and do what they can to work around the big bus tours.
I’d previously (2013) done a full day Stonehenge/Avebury/Lacock/Castle Combe tour with Mad Max which I enjoyed.
For just a little gossip, I think that the person who started Lion Tours is the ex-husband of Maddie who owns MadMax.
This doesn’t help at all with decision making but I’d be happy to travel with either. I went with MadMax last time basically because it was offered on a Monday which was the only day that worked for us.
We did Lyons your this past June. I thought the driver was great. He even took us around several of the towns. You don’t have a lot of time to explore which is disadvantage of this type of tour. On the other hand, I would not have wanted to drive.
Thanks!! 😊
