why Leeds?

is there a theme to the journey?

Are you intending to make day 1 right after arriving on a long haul journey or after some time in London? Then hire and drive to Cambridge (where do you intend to put the car whilst in Cambridge?) for a long half day and then drive all the way to Chesterfield?

I will stay 1 night in London before going out of London . I put Leeds in the plan because after visitting Harrogate so that we don't need to go nack to York and we will go to Lake District from Leeds on the next day but I can skip Leeds and Harrogate and sleep at York instead if the time for York is not enough.
For Cambridge Is it better to park the car at the car park or at the park and ride.?

We are planning four weeks in England and Wales and plan to visit many of the places that you will visit.

We have four nights in York and Whitby. three nights in the Lake District and three nights in Bath (we are planning one day to go to Glastonbury and Wells).

Your plan is moderately aggressive. You will be driving more that we plan.

Leeds is a big city. You seem to have a preference for driving into towns or cities to stay overnight. You would waste time driving into Leeds, only to find a hotel and drive out again.
Do not assume hotels have free parking. City hotels have limited or no parking, and you probably will have to pay for it. If I am touring by car I avoid the big cities, and stay in hotels in small towns or villages.

You also have a lot of one-night stays, which are not a good idea and waste time.

  • Cambridge - research where you can park before driving to Cambridge.
  • Chesterfield - Why Chesterfield? Find a small town or village to stay in near Chatsworth House.
  • If you spend the morning in Chatsworth, then driver to York, you will not have an afternoon in York. York deserves 1-2 days, not ½ day.
  • York, check your hotel has parking.
  • Harrogate, stay in Harrogate, not in Leeds.

Conclusion: This trip involves more driving time each day than sightseeing time.

Thank you so much for your suggestions. I now realize that I will spend more time in thr car than see attractions. T_T 😭

I 'm thinking to cut Cambridge (or Chatsworth house) , Leeds , Manchester. .

Day 4 - go straight from York to the Lake District. A59 out of York to M1 at J47. Then head north to come off at A684 junction and follow this route west to the Lake District. This will all be rural rather than going into a city like Leeds. A faster route to the northern Lakes is to use the A66 from Scotch Corner.

Not sure why you wish to go into Manchester.

I don’t think much of Glastonbury. You might want to see if you can take a detour through the Cheddar Gorge on the same day.

If you wish to cut down on the driving - consider deleting Cambridge and taking the train to York from London (Kings Cross).
www.nationalrail.co.uk (book in advance for cheaper fares). On the day of arrival in York - you won’t need a car.
