We will be in England 3 weeks and need to have a cell phone - either a cheap one we can buy and then dispose of or an app for my friend's USA phone. Please send suggestions. Julia

Do you have a phone that will take an e-sim? If so, that’s the easiest solution. If not, do you, or anyone you know, have an old phone that you could put a physical sim in? Both those routes are easier than buying a new phone.

What do you mean by an app for your friend's USA phone? What are you trying to do?
If it's to make a phone call while there, you can always download the WhatsApp app, which allows you to message others and make free phone calls. I have WhatsApp and use it a lot when I travel. https://www.whatsapp.com/

If you say what type and model of phone you are bringing with you, then it will be easier to help you .
Phones of different ages sometimes require different things to work overseas.

You can use WhatsApp without cellular data only when you have access to wifi. With cellular data you can call whenever you have cellular service. And anyone you call or message must also have WhatsApp installed.
