Now **4** RAIL STRIKEs ANNOUNCED 24 Hours, Wednesday July 27 **PLUS** 30 July, 18&20 August

Update STRIKE ANNOUNCED RMT Union has just announced a 24 Hour Nationwide Strike (the same companies as in June) for Wednesday 27th of July. Any companies who have settled since June of course won't strike - but with Network Rail in the mix (the folks who maintain the track and work the signalling - in other words, control all the railway) even those who settled will likely be affected.

14 of July Update - ASLEF Drivers have today announced a 24 hour strike for Saturday 30 July affecting the same 8 companies discussed in the previous thread.

NEW

Now just announced Network Rail and an increased 14 rail companies will walk out on Thursday August 18 and Saturday August 20, effectively shutting down the whole country from the later trains on 17th all the way through into Sunday.

Hi Nigel! First, thanks for your continued posts on this. As someone unfamiliar with the rai system in the UK, I’m wondering if any of our trips later this month could be affected if further dates are announced. I saw in the other thread the list of companies, none of which we have are listed, but I’m not sure if any are a subsidiary of those listed? We travel the following:
July 29: Liverpool to Manchester on East Midland
August 1: Manchester to London Euston on Avante West
August 2: Eurostar to Paris

Thanks for your help and the great explanation on the process in the other thread.

Jed I'll get back to you. Just got in the door. Your dates are different than the current strike dates.

Well, July 27 punched me right in the Durham-York……. Guess I better start looking for a bus or something. Successfully avoided July 30.

Lumo are so far unaffected for anyone wanting to go London-Edinburgh or London-Newcastle, but the things going on around them could have a huge knock-on affect on their availability and operations.

European unions are such wimps. If you are going on strike, stay on strike until you are satisfied with the contract.

Nigel I appreciate your updates & regular posts! We currently have tickets July 26 (London-Newcastle) & July 28th (Newcastle-Edinburgh) - should we expect run-off from the 27th on either day? Also are all trains completely stopped on the 27th or will there be a skeleton schedule? (Supposed to be doing Hadrian's wall that day via Northern)
Thanks for your help, while in transit we are using your posts to plan on the fly! Literally.... :)

More bad news in the OP above.

It is hard to answer questions not directly covered by the announcements or to hypothesise about what-ifs. Expect disruption on the day, and the day before as things wind down and the day after as there are repositionings etc. If the strikes are strike - skip - strike, expect disruption for the whole period.

last time about 10 percent of some train lines operated, many had no service at all. Expect the same.

Thank you so much, Nigel! This information is very helpful. July 30th we plan to be driving from Northamptonshire (yes, we are coming back! I can't wait) to a Heathrow airport hotel.

Forewarned is forearmed!

Hi Nigel,
I attended last Sunday's virtual travel meeting and really enjoyed your report on Switzerland.
Thank you SO much for this information! I'll keep following this thread to monitor the news.
My travel buddy and I are taking the train from London out to Bath on July 23rd, and the Caledonian overnight sleeper train from London to Edinburgh on 5 August, so according to this info, we're safe. For now. Knock on wood!
Again, your updates are incredibly helpful. Thank you very much!
Best wishes,
Mark C

Yes, agreed! Nigel - so appreciate these updates. Will be in Scotland/England/Ireland in mid-August to mid-September. This is very helpful albeit concerning!

Thank Nigel.....I'm planning a "last minute" trip to Scotland in mid-August to mid-September and I may call on the services of Loganair.

I appreciate the updates. Too bad I can't buy you a virtual pint.
