National Rail Tickets and 2 for 1 Admission to Events (London)

Quick question about the National Rail tickets promotion and the 2 for 1 admission to events. If I purchase a National Rail ticket say on Monday, will I still be able to use that ticket and receive the 2 for 1 admission to one of the events say on Wednesday or Thursday (a later date)?

Thank you for your guidance!

My understanding is that you must be visiting the location within the valid 'time' on the ticket. For example, if you have a return (roundtrip) ticket to London from Bath and back - leaving Bath on Tues. and returning on Friday, you could use it to access to offers Tuesday-Friday. So I think the answer to your question is no. That is why most tourists purchase National Rail Travel Cards (paper) for the Tube to access the deals rather than using true rail tickets.

You are proving you have 'travelled' to the attraction by rail, so a one day ticket for some other day doesn't do that. However a round trip ticket into London would cover your whole trip. Tickets from Heathrow don't count as the Express/Connect is not National Rail, but one from Gatwick would cover you for the whole stay.

As said in the first post, you don't need actual "rail" tickets, if you're staying in London you will need a ticket to use the tube, bus and DLR, buy a PAPER travelcard from a NATIONAL RAIL station, this also qualifies for the 2 for 1 offers.

Yes, you need a rail ticket valid for the day, which you buy from a national rail station as stated by the OP and a one day travel card counts at present. The fact that you may also use this ticket on other services is not relevant for the terms of the offer.

NO YOU DO NOT NEED A RAIL TICKET for the 2 for 1 offers, as I said above a PAPER TRAVELCARD (1 or 7 days) bought at a NATIONAL RAIL STATION (so it is on National Rail stock paper) is valid for the the 2 for 1 offers.

Uh, yes, you do. The Travelcard has many functions.

It functions as a bus ticket.

It functions as a tram ticket in the correct zones.

It functions as an Underground ticket.

It functions as a DLR ticket.

It functions as a discount on Riverboat fares.

And most important in this case - it functions as a train ticket.

All of these apply only in the named zones.

If a National Rail issued Travelcard didn't function as a train ticket it wouldn't be accepted in National Rail promotion of Days Out, which is the 2 for 1 offer.

I'm well aware what it covers, it's a travel card not a rail ticket, rail tickets only work on trains, I'm pointing out that travel cards (bought from national rail) ALSO work for the 2 for 1's, you don't HAVE to have a bona fide rail ticket to qualify for the offers as some of our US visitors seem to think.

Let's look at what days out says to be definitive and complete, although visitors aren't likely to have the ones at the bottom of the list:

The following ticket types are fine to use for 2FOR1 offers:

National Rail tickets - purchased from a rail station, including:

Advance
Anytime
Off-Peak
Gatwick/Stansted Express
Travelcards - only when purchased from a train station

Print @ Home/Mobile - showing the National Rail logo only
Season tickets with Photocards - including those with TfL Travelcard add-ons
Annual Gold Cards
Annual Oyster card WITH Gold Record card

Thank you all so much for your very thorough replies! I truly appreciate the time and thought you put into your responses.

My daughter and I are absolutely thrilled about our upcoming trip and I want to make sure that we handle funds appropriately so we can afford to take in even more events and sights.

Again, thank you for your words of guidance.
