National rail card - Southeast

I was going to buy this to save money on some trips from Tunbridge Wells, but I plugged in some journeys (even did it after 10 am), and except for a couple of trips, there’s no bargain

I wonder if I did something wrong…

I plugged in destinations like Staplehurst, Edenbridge, Wadhurst and Sevenoaks - zero discount.

I suppose it’s likely that some of the journeys are too inexpensive to allow for a bargain?

I don’t think I’ll be saving at least £35, so it doesn’t make sense to buy the pass for £35

Thanks!

The issue is the £13 minimum fare after the discount on Monday to Friday.

I suspect you will make the money back with your initial journey today/tomorrow from London to Tunbridge Wells, and your longer day trips to Broadstairs and the Isle of Wight.

Even TW to Arundel is over £13 so gets the discount.

Hope you have a good journey today.

As with many discounts, you just have to sit down and do the math. :-) I always do that and can make a more informed decision.

Sometimes it's easy—for example, I bought a HRP (Historic Royal Palaces) family membership (1 adult/up to 6 kids) for £85, which was cheaper than buying separate tickets for the three of us to Hampton Court Palace (£56 for 1 adult/2 kids) and the Tower of London (£71.60 for 1 adult/2 kids); totalling £130.40. Plus it gives me 10% off in the cafe and gift shop. That was a no brainer since it saved me over £45.

It is a bit more time-consuming with train tickets, but again doing the math helps.

Mardee, I’ve been doing that. I was just surprised that most of my journeys offer no discount

I did join Royal Oak, essentially the American arm of the National Trust since many of the places I’m visiting are NT properties

Stuart, I get it…

I’m pretty much getting all my discounts with going from TW to Arundel, and Arundel to Portsmouth

I decided to get a car service because I’ve got an extra bag, but before I pre-booked the car, I plugged in Friday’s date to London …no discount. No discount for TW to London on April 22, but that’s peak going to, so I get it

Thank you - I’m so excited!

I’ll post reports!

Oh, that's great, Betsy, and I should have assumed that since you've been so well organized. :-) I joined Royal Oak last year when I was on my 6 week trip of the UK, and it was a real savings. Plus you get the free parking as well. I did not renew it this year since I was staying in London only, but definitely would join again if I were back out in the country. Good luck with the train tickets!

Obsessive is more like it, lol

I won’t have a car, but it’s still very much worth it. Too bad Scotland is not included, but Wales is !

Thank you !!

Stuart, this looks like it could really work for me
Thank you!

I did a bit of a shop at Sainsbury’s today - my welcome to the UK, kind of, lol

Welcome to the UK, I was planning something for myself today (in the
North of England) and was reminded of this Rail Rover Ticket for Kent
(the Kent Rover) which may be worth your while investigating for some
of your trip to the far side of Kent-
