National Army Museum

Anyone been there? I think it's relatively new and looks interesting for military buffs.

The NAM has been there for a while - the 'new' bit is because it was closed for almost 3 years to be totally refitted, re-opening back in March.

Go back 20 years and it was very much a glass case artefact exhibit and oil painting traditional museum. It is now much more of an interpretive place of army life in the current style. In between it was more of a chronological walk through history. Of course each 'type' of museum have people who like and dislike them.

It’s not too far from the South Kensington museums; a pleasant walk through Chelsea, around the corner from the Royal Hospital.

Its focus is the British Army – no other army has fought in so many different theatres, so there are many artefacts from different campaigns. A lock of Napoleon’s hair and Wellington’s coat

It’s free with a nice café. And if you want more militaria the number 136 bus takes you all the way to the Imperial War Museum.

Looks interesting! Thanks for posting your question!

Gives me one more thing to work in on my next visit. I think the exhibit on War Paint looks interesting.
