My biggest lessons on London trip planning

Start early and book ahead. I just finished developing my itinerary for a London trip later this year, and I was amazed at how quickly sights book up completely, sometimes months in advance. By planning far in advance and being vigilant, I was able to book almost everything I wanted. I even got a table at one of the hottest restaurants in the city. I've planned several European vacations over the past few years, and none of them required nearly the amount of pre-booking as London. I can't imagine how disappointed people are to just show up to London and find they can't get into a lot of the sights.

It seems to be a modern thing, and not just London/England.
In the past two years, we have been to Belgium, France, Germany, The Netherlands and Spain (as well as UK), and have had the same problem everywhere, with hotels, restaurants and attractions.
We are off to Normandy by car in July and have already booked our hotels, and dinner reservations for Sundays and Mondays.
We are looking forward to meeting some Americans to get their take on the current politics.
