I'm leaving for London soon and wonder what are the main apps I should have on my phone when I arrive? For transport, information, etc. or anything else you suggest. Thank you!
CityMapper. It provided real time information on transportation including multiple options (walking, bus, tube, etc.) And it gave details such as which tube entrance should be used, and which way to turn outside the front door. We've since used it in other cities,
CityMapper
www.tfl.gov.uk
Uber
Trainline
London Tube Live App
Time Out London
Stagedoor if you like theatre
London Walks www.walks.com ( for interesting and informative walks with guides)
WeatherPro
And if a coffee addict:
best coffee guide
City Toilet Finder app
TfL Go app
National Rail app plus apps for the train companies you will be using
Blue Plaques app
British Museum app
BBC Weather app
Heathrow app
National Trust app (give it time to update last minute changes to openings)
(English Heritage) Days Out app
Rick Steves app for maps and walks
... for starters
If you want to be like the locals then at least 3 weather apps that you can obsessively scroll between.
Citymapper is a must have.
Today Tix is another good theatre app.
If you are doing any museums I recommend checking out their apps. The Westminster Abbey app is terrific - make sure you have your earbuds in your pocket/purse so you can listen to the audio.
Yet another vote for CityMapper app.
From those mentioned so far I have Uber and What’s App. I seem to manage OK with that. None are “must have” but you might enjoy some.
I second the recommendation for museum apps for those places you will visit. Many are great and have lots of valuable info for your visit, but have to load all sorts of data to work well. So rather than waiting until you are there, scanning the barcode at the ticket counter and having to wait, download it at home on your wi-fi so you can hit the ground running.
