Movie Tour

Okay, at the risk of sounding silly: I LOVE the movies "Bridget Jones Diary" and "Love Actually"! I share this information because BritMovieTours has a Romantic Movie tour that shows where these movies were filmed in London. However, I cannot find any reviews of this particular tour. Trip advisor had reviews for britmovietours other tours but not this one. The britmovietours website says, "Even if you’re not a movie buff don’t worry as the tour is a great way to see both the more hidden gems of the city as well as iconic and historic landmarks such as St Pauls Cathedral, Tower Bridge and The London." The Hop on/Hop off bus tour had terrible reviews (stuck in traffic not moving etc). So, I thought well really this could be better. Can anyone venture an opinion? Thank you!

If your only concern is getting stuck in traffic, then if you go where the traffic is you too will get stuck in traffic.

lol, yes Nigel, I am expecting traffic congestion in central London. I guess i thought tour busses would have a way of dealing with this. In the city i live in buses have special travel lanes as high occupancy vehicles and are often still moving when cars are in a jam.
Like many others who post here i hope to gain some extra value for my time and dollars by planning ahead. I originally had a bus tour down for one of our early jet lagged days. My young child would be enamoured with the open top double decker ride in and of its self. I could orient myself to london. Then I read reviews on travel sites about sitting unmoving in traffic, missing entry times etc. I thought about sitting in the hot sun in a traffic jam with a young child and this no longer seemed like fun and more like a waste of time and money. During this time a teacher I work with gave birth to a baby who passed away the same day. I was up late sad and sleepless and thought about the number of times I have watched "love actually" or "Bridget jones" during times when I was too upset/ sad/stressed to read. It is a coping mechanism. Then I thought it would be nice to visit some of the places these movies were filmed so that when I was up late and upset again in the future watching love actually or bridget jones I would have the happy memories of being there. But the lack of responses to this topic leads me to believe the britmovietour is not a good value for time and or money.
Before i end this post Nigel i just want to say that i appreciate the time you take to respond to all the questions!

"But the lack of responses to this topic leads me to believe the britmovietour is not a good value for time and or money."

Not necessarily. It may just mean that posters here have not taken it, and therefore have nothing to say about it. That's my situation.

I can say that the movie and TV themed tours in New York City (Sex And The City, The Sopranos, etc) seem to be very much enjoyed by the big fans of those shows, both because you get to see the locations and because the other tour participants share your interest and knowledge. However, they are not so interesting for the non-fans; seeing the real location of the Scout bar or the Bada Bing just isn't much of a thrill if you have no idea what those things refer to.

Since you specified that you loved Bridget Jones's Diary and Love Actually, this tour sounds good for you. An alternative would be to do some Google and IMDB research, get the filming locations, plot them on a map, and do your own tour. But not only is this more work, you would miss the camaraderie of having fellow enthusiasts to share it with.

Bridget's flat is directly above the Globe pub in Borough Market. Since the filmed the movie though there's been a giant great railway bridge built about 10 feet in front of it.

Thank you Emma AND mincepie. After mincepie's posting I typed "Globe Pub Borough Market" into Google and stumbled upon the same site. I have chosen to visit Bridget's Flat (doesn't appear to be to far from the aquarium?), the place that was a Greek restaurant in the movie (and is now a wine store I think), the Alice Ayers memorial (from Closer) just because I love the idea behind the creation of the space (everyday people doing extraordinary acts) and want to show this to my young students in America, and possibly the church from Love Actually. And of course I will take my young child to platform 9 3/4 because he may grow into a Potter fan before we are back your way. Thank you again Emma for posting the link for everyones benefit.
Harold, thank you for your comments. You are right that I will be giving up the camaraderie of fellow enthusiasts by doing it this way and I have taken that into consideration.
Ashley, I will be sure to post when I return :)
