Mom - traveling with 9 year old son and need childcare for one day!

Hi!

I am lucky enough to travel all over the world for work. For the first time, I am taking my 9 year old son with me. I have to speak at a conference in London for one day and then we have the rest of the time together. I could bring him with me to the conference, but I think he would be really bored. Any suggestions on all day educational trips or other adventures that are trustworthy and interesting?

Thanks so much,
Susan

I would definitely check with your hotel to see if they have any nanny services. Even though my son was very well traveled going on many flights alone, I would not have sent him on an educational trip by himself in another country, that is just my opinion. Don't do what I did when traveling with my son. Had two hour evening conference and he was very well traveled and world wise. Left him in hotel room for two hours in evening and told him if he was hungry he could order room service. This was after we had already had dinner. Ever see Home Alone, Lost in New York movie? My room service bill, and this was twenty years ago, was fifty dollars or so, sundaes, cookies, etc. Needless to say he had a blast!!!

I would check with the hotel. They should be able to hire a sitter or refer you to an agency. You could also look at local museums to see if they offer any day camps. There are so many wonderful museums in London. That might be more interesting than just hanging out with a sitter. But then again if you are comfortable- the sitter could do amazing outings with your son in London.
