Minster Hotel, York

Hi -

A quick ‘heads up’ for all those of you staying at this hotel on the Best of England tour (I’m staying here myself at the moment and they are expecting you shortly, I’ve checked!).

If you keep your room key card next to your mobile (cell) phone while out and about, it’s entirely possible your phone will decode the card making re-entry into your room impossible. As I discovered to my chagrin while attempting to quietly sneak back into the hotel last night, well after midnight! Fortunately we had managed to get into the hotel and the night porter was able to reprogramme the key card. I think patience might wear a bit thin on all sides if there was a small queue doing the same in the early hours!

Otherwise I’ve enjoyed our overnight here and also a trip to the Minster Inn pub, right out of the hotel and right again down Marygate shortly thereafter.

That’s a potential issue with all phones, cards, anything with a magnet. Hardly the hotel’s fault.

Agreed. Culprit is anything with a signal. We twice had our key card wiped while being next to contactless credit cards.

Not suggesting it’s the hotels fault at all! As pointed out it is a potential problem with anything that has signal. No, the problem here is the massive klutz and techno ignoramus who owns my phone!

But a word to the wise (or similarly challenged) never hurts.

Minster Inn pub will be on my way when I am in York in July - will have to stop and give it a try!

And I had to remind myself just tonight to NOT hold that room key in the same hand as my phone….
