Millennium Gloucester Hotel London Kensington

Going to Stonehenge Sept 28 to be picked up at the Gym entrance of the Millennium at 5:30 AM. Will not have a car, are there any cheaper hotels I could walk safely to or sites that could get me a room two nights at the Millennium for about $150 a night?

It may be tough to find something in that price range in September (150 USD is only about 118 GBP). The Premier Inn London Kensington (Earls Court) on Knaresborough Place sometimes has rooms at about that price, but I suspect they will be higher this close to travel. It is about a 10 minute walk from the Millennium Gloucester.

Hi Joanne,

This Hotel is near the Millenium Gloucester Hotel in the Kensington area. It's about 0.1 miles. It's within walking distance to the pick up spot and the prices look reasonable.

Unless you are willing to go into a dumpy 2 star hotel in that neighborhood, you should expect to pay $200/night and up.

The Premiere Inn mentioned in the previous post is about $220/night for a non-refundable rate.

It's not a cheap area. I should know....it's my "home" area in London.

I checked the Ashburn since it is less expensive than other hotels in the area, but for 9/27-29, the cheapest price I saw was $287 a night. The Earls Court Premier Inn was showing $207 a night. It is an 8 minutes walk from the Millenium.

A couple other hotels Meliá London Kensington, DoubleTree by Hilton, and Radisson Blu Edwardian Vanderbilt came up around $297 a night. Even the budget hotel ibis Styles London Gloucester Road was $255 a night. The least expensive I saw was Montana Hotel Kensington at $239. It’s only a 3 minutes walk to the Millenium.

I’m not sure where there is a hotel in that area for the stated nightly price.

I found a site called AGODA that has rooms at the Millennium for $169. Know anything about the site? I don't mind walking but before dawn anywhere, how safe can it be? what about an AirBnB and a taxi? do they run that early?

Agoda is owned by Booking com . Its a good price but it may be a room that is poorly located,or not. Sometimes these cheaper rooms are the worst rooms in the place and sometimes a regular room.

You could book it and then request a quiet location or whatever and you may luck out. There is a refundable and non refundable option. And make sure you read the details to make sure taxes and other charges ate included so you have no surprises. Details!

Hello Joanne,

In response to your second posting, several weeks ago I booked a 7-night stay at the Millennium Gloucester for mid-October for $270 per night including breakfast. Hotels in South Kensington are expensive. However, it's a neighborhood that I love and feel safe in. Before booking directly with the hotel, I checked booking.com, hotels.com, and expedia.com. All rates were about the same.

I've never heard of AGODA and could be wrong, but its rate seems way out of sync with other sites. Perhaps booking in September, rather than October, explains such a significant difference, but I doubt it. Hope this helps.

I just looked at AGODA for the Millenium Gloucester and they have three rooms. The price is $213.00 USD which converts to $167.53 GBP. Was the price you saw in dollars or pounds?

$169 is a good price, but does that include taxes and fees? Agoda often quotes prices without taxes and fees. If you want to see the real price, add it to your cart.

I would have no problem walking in that neighborhood at 5am.

this is a lot of work for a ride to Stonehenge.

London is a big city, with big city services.

There are black cab taxis and minicabs all night long. 5:30 isn't that early, although maybe in South Kensington people like to get up late. When I was working I regularly had shifts starting at 4:53 which meant being on the road at 4:30, and there were many like me.

I'd find the hotel or apartment you like - although your budget is very low for pretty much anywhere in London, especially So. Ken, and take a taxi if you don't want to walk. At that time you can get anywhere quite quickly.

Would you consider a hostel?

I really hope that you are going to Stonehenge out of personal desire and interest, not because somebody said it is a "must see". At 4:30, when you'd need to be up, I'd much rather be tucked up in bed. (I did go in around 1972 with the family - don't remember much, never went back).

Just to note, in London on 28 September, dawn is just before 7 am. Sunset will be at 6:45pm.
