Mayfair or CountyHall area?

First visit to London in July from CA!!.... Trying to book hotels with available rooms for 4 adults and 2 kids (7 &8), right now they are already charging about $1,045 total for all of us.

Ist option is Grand Residences Marriott in Mayfair
2nd is Park Plaza County Hall

I would appreciate any feedback on these places in terms of sightseeing, restaurant to check, walking distance places to see etc. we only have 2 days
Also would love to know recommendations for a private day tour company in London that we could hire for 4 adults and 2 kids.

Thank you all so much!!

I prefer County Hall. Right by the River Thames, straight across the river from Big Ben, near the London Eye. Short walk across the bridge to Trafalgar Square, Covent Garden etc. Plus the walk east from County Hall along the South Bank of the Thames is endlessly interesting and one of the great city walks.

Huge selection of restaurants - a fair few on the South Bank clustered around the nearby Royal Festival Hall or across the bridge around Charing Cross/Covent Garden. Good range of prices & cuisines.

Mayfair is the really posh bit of central London. I don't like it because it feels a bit stuffy and fancy.

I would go with County Hall location for walks along the Thames with iconic views across to the Houses of Parliament.
The Mayfair location by contrast offers proximity for walks through nearby Hyde Park.
