Maps—which map or maps to buy for sites and train stations?

It occurred to me that there might be a map of England that is:
1. Colorful and easy to read
2. Has train stations marked
3. Has historic sites marked
4. Has gardens marked

Does anyone know of such a map for a trip using train transport, to many parts of the country?
I would prefer a map of the whole country on one page, not a book of maps.
Thanks!

Back in the day we used the Ordnance Survey maps - the ones with the orange covers. https://shop.ordnancesurvey.co.uk/map-ranges/os-paper-map-ranges/explorer-maps/

From the interwebs: “UK Ordnance Survey maps display a detailed representation of the British landscape, including roads, buildings, rivers, natural features, and other geographical points of interest, using a system of symbols and colors to denote different elements, making it easy to navigate and understand the terrain with a specific focus on accurate location data across Great Britain.”

And from the OS website: “The essential map range for those who like to explore and discover. Our famous orange Explorers are the only maps of Great Britain to display footpaths, car parks, contour lines, campsites, pubs, and more. Always know your location whether walking, running, cycling, or horse riding – every map comes with a free digital download for your devices to use while out.”

There is soooooo much detail, however (there is a LOT of stuff in the UK to cram in) that I don’t think there’s a single map for the entire UK. They are regional.

There are over 2,570 main line railway stations in the UK- about 500 more than in the whole of the Continental US (not sure of the exact number, it's hard to keep trace of the exact number with the pace of openings). Fitting all of those on one sheet would be all but impossible. Likewise for every historic site or garden. With a country that is all but a thousand miles from top to bottom and something close to 500 miles wide the scale required would mitigate against such level of detail.

Thanks for the replies.
What would be 3 or 4 maps that might get me started? Would they be the ordinance survey maps, and do they have a scale with broader areas covered?
The AA map looks interesting.

Hi!

Ordnance survey maps come in a range of scales - the classic "Landranger" series are quite detailed and best for walking, cycling and detailed planning for a specific area. There are larger scale ones they do - check them out at Ordnance Survey

If you're planning to travel by train I'd be tempted to try and pick up a cheap used ring bound road map and remove the pages I don't need to cut down the weight/bulk.

I'm a map nut but must admit now only use apps - Ordnance Survey do an app with free maps or you can pay for the detailed maps. If you're tech savvy then I'd try OsmAnd+ since you can pick and mix what to include on the map e.g. train lines and tourist sites. You can also include Wikipedia entries!
