I am heading to Old Trafford in February for a match and prior to the match. I was planning on going to the Word War II museum North. I was planning on leaving London early so I can be the first one inside the door on a Saturday. I was wondering if anyone has gone to the Museum.
After the Museum I was planning on going to the pubs near the stadium and then into go inside for the match.
The IWM North is worth seeing, as is The Lowry nearby.
Be aware that match days and timings can change to fit tv schedules so this match could be played Friday, Saturday or Sunday. I am not a football fan, but I think the schedule is only confirmed 2-3 weeks out.
Sky will announce Feb's. '23 televised fixtures the 1st week of Dec. None of Man Ure's home games during Feb. look obvious Tv picks.
You will be arriving at Manchester's Piccadilly station. Go down below to the Metrolink station and catch any tram going to Media City, Eccles or Altrincham and get off at Cornbrook. You literally wait on the same platform for a Trafford Centre bound tram and get off at the Imperial War Museum.
Alternatively, you could get a tram from Piccadilly going to Media City or Eccles via Media City and alight at Media City. The museum is about 5-10 minutes walk across the bridge and Quays.
The museum is worth visiting but a little too PC for me, but I believe the one in London has gone the same.
If you have a contactless card, you can use that to tap on and off as you will be used to in London. It's capped at around £3.50 for the zones you will use for a day ticket after 9.30am.
Nearby there is the Quays shopping centre and Media City for food and a posh drink. More down to earth ones near the stadium but will be busy.
Loads of food and drink options at the Trafford Centre but will add to your tram cost a little as it is further out.
