Manchester to Penrith for 2 persons transportation driver vs train

We are traveling from Seattle to Manchester.
Will be jet lagged ,have used Davies taxi in the past excellent!
Seeking recommendations for train to Penrith or taxi or is there a direct shuttle ?
Will stay overnight in Penrith prior to renting car for stay in Nidderdale area.
Recommendation for nice historic area hotel or B & B in Penrith?

There is no direct shuttle, there simply wouldn't be a demand for it. The direct hourly train takes just a shade under two hours. If driving legally the taxi won't be much if any faster.
If you buy an Airport Advance Single for peanuts that is a flexible ticket to cover for flight delays.
I would buy a 1st class version - which includes food and drink, very affordable.

You have to allow a 1 hour window from landing to train to get the flexibility.

If you choose a taxi then stick with Davies'.

Hotel wise, it has to be the George Hotel if your budget stretches that far. No question on that.

Three B and B's I've stayed in (as a local) are the Abbey House, Albany House and the Glendale. The latter two are next to each other on Portland Place, both very nice old properties on a quiet street a very short distance from the Town Centre- ideal. Abbey House has nothing at all wrong with it but is at the South end of town, and not such a grand property. Price wise it's usually a bit cheaper but nothing significant.
Being personal the Glendale gave me a very prompt refund within a day once on a non refundable room when a family emergency happened, so get very high praise.
Foundry 34 (a restaurant with rooms), right in the Town centre is supposed to be very nice, but no personal experience.
