Manchester to London train question

My earlier topic with this question deleted when I saved a new reply. I don't know what happened. Here goes again..

My husband and I will be in Manchester for business, then traveling to London afterward for leisure. Wanting to book our train but have some questions. Our hotel is within a few minutes walking distance to Manchester Victoria Station. We will have luggage- possibly one suitcase and one carry on, not sure yet. Is it easier to walk to Victoria and take tram or metro to Piccadilly (which is free?) or taxi / uber from our hotel directly to Piccadilly?

Same with arrival to Manchester airport. We won't pre book in case of delays, but is it easier to taxi or ride tram / metro?

Thanks Marco for the reply in my earlier post, clarifying if I book from Victoria to London, there is no train connecting Victoria to Piccadilly. :)

Thanks in advance for the help!

Samantha, take a tram or a taxi. Probably too far to walk. Note the Manchester tram system is called "Metrolink", there is no separate metro. At Victoria it stops inside the station.
When buying tickets, be sure to alwys specify Manchester Victoria station and Manchester Piccadilly station. There is of course also London Victoria station, and Piccadilly is a tube station in London.

On arrival at Mnachester airport, just get a train to Manchester Piccadilly direct from the airport. This is quicker than the tram. No need to book in advance, this is a regular commuter service.

Your post doesn't say when your trip will be.

There has been considerable building work on a link to join the two Manchester stations by train. If it isn't already open it will likely be soon.

It may be worth checking.

Take the train from the airport.

Manchester Victoria Station has a free bus that goes to Manchester Piccadilly Station every 10/12 minutes, but only until 6pm and these can be very busy. It is a 15/20 minute walk.

The tram also runs this route, but you will have to pay to use that and the same for the local bus service that also covers the route.

There are no direct trains from Manchester Victoria to London.

If you use the journey planner on the Metrolink site you will get all the transfer options listed, including bus, tram and walking. Depending on exactly where you are staying there might be an even more convenient bus, even if you are paying.
