My friend and I will be staying in Manchester in June for two nights before flight back to US. We're looking for something close to center.
Townhouse Hotel, Manchester lovely hotel.
Lots and lots of choice at all price points and the centre is small enough. I don’t have a lot of e per living close enough to get home easily, but I had lunch yesterday at The Alan and that looked a very cool addition.
It would be useful to know your budget.
Budget like Premier Inn, Travelodge or Ibis.
Mid range or a splurge.
When I stay in Manchester it's for purely functional reasons, so I pay the lowest price possible, and don't mind being out at Salford or elsewhere in the suburbs, which isn't much use to you.
Although actually out on Salford Quays isn't a bad choice now it has two tram routes into the city.
Like John, I am close enough to go to Manchester as a day trip, and it would usually be more cost efficient for me to do so.
Interestingly The Alan (above) looks pretty mid range price wise.
Thanks for the suggestions. We would favor something mid-range, with character. :)
Take a look at the Whitworth Locke.
While I have never stayed there, I know a couple of people who worked there and they said their guests really like it.
I'm an Ibis fan and have stayed twice at this Manchester branch:
It's an easy walk from two railroad stations, municipal public transport and several pubs. There is a fine Indian restaurant in the same building (independent management).
Ibis hotels have no traditional character but always efficient and friendly 24-hour service, and tidy if small rooms.
The nearby avenue leading to Manchester University is called the Curry Mile, to give you an idea of student tastes.
