I’ll be traveling to London mid September and would love to visit Lyme Regis for a day (longer would be ideal but time is limited). I believe the train goes to Axminster which is near Lyme Regis. How would I go about finding train schedules and transportation options from Axminster to Lyme Regis? Thanks!

That is a long way for a day trip. South Western trains run from Waterloo to Axminster- usually hourly but currently every two hours due to a landslip. But the journey each way takes 3 1/2 hours. It arrives at quarter to the hour. There is then a 30 minute wait for the First Bus X51/X53 at 15 minutes past the hour, taking 20 minutes.
The first train from Waterloo currently is at 0820, arrive Lyme Regis by Bus 1233.
The last two trains back are at 1825 from Axminster, arrive 2205 and 2025, arrive 2356.
The bus from Lyme Regis is at 1720 and 1820 (last bus).

I drove from Heathrow to Lyme Regis to the Airbnb I was staying at. Drive took 4 hours.
IMHO it’s not a day trip from London on public transport.
