East Midland Trains Class 222 Meridians- to be re-formed as 6 car sets, removing the buffet and first class, replacing with all standard class seating. At least one to my knowledge has been driver training up and down the route since before Christmas.

that's a shame. they were good when Midland Main Line had them with the M's Bar.

Not terrifically spiffing in accessibility either, really narrow aisle.

The first trains ran on 25 May- currently only the 0850 (1006 Sundays) southbound and 1636 (1718 Sundays) northbound are running.

The 0850 southbound (not the northbound) is additionally calling at Nuneaton.

Unfortunately the northbound trains on each of the first two days have been heavily delayed by different major infrastructure issues (as have Avanti services). Today the issue has been a major signalling issue at Crewe which has affected all operators operating through Crewe Station with many local services in the Crewe Area having to be replaced with buses.

The quality of the interior is worth careful scrutiny. The website features a fully refurbished (blue seats) and reliveried (blue) set, and 222601 was indeed in this state on the one round trip per day on Monday and Tuesday. BUT images have also been released with EMR first class seats being replaced by standard class seats in EMRish grey but not quite the same as the rest of standard class. Which begs the question, if they intend to crack on and fully refurbish enough sets to cope with the build up in service why bother to mess around with these seats? I fear proper refurbishment will only cover enough for the publicty purposes and the rest won't get it.
