Luggage storage Paddington Station

We are coming in on the Heathrow Express.

Estimating an 1 hr 45 minutes from the time we land to the time we arrive in the Paddington station, Assuming we take the 1hr 45 min, I think we will still have 4 hours before our next train from leaves from Paddington.

I looked at Left Baggage at platform 12. Looks like it will be £30 for 2 bags for 4 hours. It looks convenient, but wondering what other options there might be. as the price is higher than we thought it would be. Since our time is so short, maybe it's the most efficient and thought if we did this route it might be good to pre-pay so we can get the faster line according to the website, but that might not even matter.

Anyone else experience on what they did to store their luggage at Paddington train station?

If you look at Stasher (which uses local hotels and stores), for instance, there are half a dozen places within a stones throw of Paddington station.

They charge £4.99 a bag, so 1/3rd the cost. Excess Baggage Co are noted for their excessive charging.

Pre-paying at Excess Baggage Company also does not "skip the line". Paying takes seconds. The line (such as it is and it is even then minimal) is for security checking of your bags.

There are other such internet based left luggage services.

But where on earth are you going to from Paddington that you have a 4 hour wait there. If you are travelling on timed advance tickets and are routing via Paddington on HE then you haven't been well advised on your train ticketing and routeing options.

With that much time in hand you could have travelled to Paddington on the Elizabeth Line for 1/2 the cost and only 15 minutes (or less) longer, if you count the change to tube at Paddington, which would have taken you right into the centre of London (where you would easily have found a stasher or equivalent location.
or have travelled on an off peak flexible ticket on one of the rail routes which avoids London- that way you would have been straight on your way whatever time you are clear of the airport, and it would also have covered for any flight delays (what happens if your flight is over 4 hours late?).

The extra over between Advance Tickets and Off Peak flexible tickets would have almost certainly been less than HE and then left luggage costs and have been arguably more sensible when you are likely to be jet lagged.

I too am intrigued by the destination which needs a four hour wait at Paddington. I can think of a few where it could be two if you were unlucky.

Excess Baggage Co rates have gone from pricy, but conceivably worth the convenience, to only buy in absolute distress in a few years. They can get away with it perhaps in airports but not in cities. The going rate to store in local shops in Praed Street at the front of the station is £1.20 per hour.

Have you already bought tickets for the Heathrow Express?

If not, it’s much easier to use a contactless card and take the Elizabeth line to Paddington, where you can drop off your bags anyone of the number of luggage storage places on Praed Street. The advantage of using your contactless card is that you can then get back on the tube system and travel around for essentially very little more money than you’ve already paid to get in on the Elizabeth line. You could take the Elizabeth line one more stop to Bond Street, where you can change to the Jubilee line and go down to have a look at Parliament (Westminster).

If you have already bought and are committed to Heathrow express tickets, once you’ve dropped your bags, you could have a walk around Hyde Park or even walk over to Kensington Palace.

You have a few hours, and plenty of options. I often make it from deplaning to arriving at my front door in Paddington in less than an hour, but there’s no guarantees!

And obviously, leave enough time to make sure you get your bags back before your next train. I once left my suitcase at left luggage at Kings Cross only for them to have a bomb scare and shut down the entire train station for an hour. I was sweating wondering if I would make my flight with my bags or not!

Wow, all of these answers had helpful information. Thinking we will go to one of the shops outside the hotel. I have seen a map with them listed. Until reading last night on this forum, I was not even aware of the Elizabeth line in London as an option and did purchase the Heathrow express tickets awhile back as that is what we have used in the past, but have not been back in 6 years! These answers are what I love about this forum. Thank you!
