Lucy Worsley Royal Palace Secrets

Yesterday this was on my local PBS channel. I have never seen Royal Palace Secrets although I am familiar with Ms. Worsley.

As with all her other shows, it was excellent and so informative.

For those who are familiar with Lucy Worsley, I do not have to explain who she is and her programs but for those not familiar with her, I suggest that you check her and her many programs out.

Besides being entertained, you are going to learn a lot about Royalty and not just British Royalty.

If you are planning a trip to London anytime soon or in the future, this program will be a terrific guide.

My whole family love her. She also had a wonderful three part series about Agatha Christie on PBS recently.

I met her in person a few years ago when she gave a talk on something Royal and English at a venue here in Atlanta. We chatted with her and found her to be as cute and personable as she is on TV. Love her!

Hi Heather

I watched some of her Agatha Christie series but not all. However I am certain that it will come around again.

It is nice that besides being well educated and intellectual, she also comes across as "down home".

I have seen some of the same shows more than once and do not get bored. There is always something new to learn.

It's interesting to hear Lucy Worsley described as "down home". If you look at her through the lens of the British class system, she's about as far from that as you can get!

I was reading about a Tudor house which used to be near where I live in north east London. I noticed it was built in the 1470's for Henry VIII by William Worsley. I dug a little further and the name derives from Sir Elias de Workesley, a courtier in William the Conqueror's court in 1066. It suggests to me that the Worsleys have been pretty close to the Royal Household for going on 1000 years, borne out by the fact that Lucy Worsley was Curator of the Royal Palaces before appearing on TV.

I get what you mean though. It's easy to imagine she is friendly and approachable in real life and does a great job on TV, all the better for being slightly quirky.

She still is joint chief curator at Historic Royal Palaces but note the "joint".

The other is Tracy Borman, a very knowledgeable person

Hi GerryM

well to me, Ms Worsley come across as Down Home on her shows which I mean as a compliment. But that is my opinion only and how I see her on TV.

I like her at least as a viewer of PBS

I like her too. It's good to see how she's got better at TV since she's gone along. Her early shows from BBC4 were quite charming, but she is a great TV presenter now, as well as a very knowledgeable academic.
